I'm shipping Black Mountain patterns on the website now!  

It's the perfect time for sewing. When the temperature climbs in the afternoon, just stay indoors for a few hours to start sewing on a holiday project.  Don't forget Halloween and Turkey day too. This applique is with fusible web, and Teri wrote simple instructions for the spider web and leg applique. It's a zig zag stitch over yarn.  

Does applique scare you?  Have you tried it, or do you stick with pieced quilts? I'd love to hear from you.

p.s. My favorite sewing time is late at night when it's too hot to sleep.

My 2010 calendar just arrived today.  It can be ordered online at calendars.com They let me pick out all the months and even the cover on this one.  I figured we needed something cheery this time around.

Christmas Cute

This charming Mr. Snowman applique quilt has to be my all time favorite Black Mountain quilt!  I'll be adding other designers to the website in the next few months and of course, I had to add my sister first.  Teri Christopherson of Black Mountain Quilts has eleven adorable new patterns. Get busy with some fun Christmas in July sewing.

Tie One On

My Christmas Candy quilt is ready to finish up.... Has me thinking.....Machine quilting can make a stunning quilt, but over the years I noticed that my family will always grab a very lightly quilted or tied quilt when they want to snuggle. Of course, it's also always the "ugly" quilt in the house!  I'll have to post a photo! A tied quilt can be a much softer effect.  For the last two years I've been doing more tying than machine quilting. I think it's interesting that tied quilts have had a bit of a revival, right along with all the other retro things like little owls, mushrooms, the color orange etc. 

I remember learning how to tie a quilt at a ladies church gathering, but I can't find a single book or pattern that will show me that original method.  Hooray youtube!  You can learn anything on youtube. That original knot I learned has escaped my memory, but here are two fabulous tutorials.

Fresh Air

Can't we just do this all summer? Maybe I can set up a sewing machine on the patio and at least watch the grass grow.

Monkey's & Chicks

It's good to be back from vacation.  I didn't get to go to the San Juan Islands to see an Orca killer whale because the Olympic Peninsula was too much fun! I'll have to go again.  Washington is addicting! No vampire sightings at LaPush baby. (Twilight - a teenage love/vampire movie/book. In case you were wondering.)
